Located on the west coast of the island, Isabela offers a beautiful and serene look with stellar beaches year round as well as rainforests, rivers, lakes, mountains, submarine rivers, caves, and many more sites to explore. It's a photographer's paradise.
The waves rival the best in the world with with great beaches, rainforests, and a dynamic overall area. Another is its quaint culture, which includes monuments to the island's native Indian heritage, and specialties including santeros, the artisans who carve wooden santos, or saints; a local cheese called quesito de hoja, and elegant Paso Fino horses.
The town of Isabela, on Puerto Rico's northwest coast, is known as the Ciudad de los Gallitos or the "City of the Fighting Cocks." Since the 18th century, cock fighting was very common throughout the island, and the town became famous and well known for the quality of its fighting cocks and special breeding and training techniques used by its people.
So we have a private gated compound with 8 villas that sleep 4-8 people each. All are connected through a private estate that has a massive pool, basketball courts, volleyball, BBQ pits, and plenty of porches and lounge areas. It's a great meeting place to hang out by the pool and drink with friends. The location is great to get off the compound and head to areas like the beach, mountains, rivers, caves, etc.
Arrive in San Juan by 6PM on Nov 9th to catch a ride with RGG EDU. If you are arriving after please make sure to notify us so we can arrange something.
We will be renting 4 vans for the group and for anyone that arrives in PR on Nov 9th. We will also be taking the group to the airport on the 13th for the earliest flights for your return. If you arrive after the 9th, we recommend that you rent a small car and meet us at the villas. Rental cars are about $12 per day and vans are $44 per day. Having your own vehicle will give you the ability to get off the compound, head into town when you want, and travel to some unique destinations with us. If you guys need to run an errand, a PA will be there to take you.
RGG EDU will be providing Brunch and Linners every night at the compound as a family style dinner. BOO-YAA! We are going to break bread together (with vegetarian options) on a nightly basis after our daily excursions. Each of the 8 villas also has a kitchen and groups are encouraged to stock some food in their villas for breakfast. Bring some folding money so we can grab quick lunches/snacks on the go whether on the beach or from a restauratnt. Groups are expected to stock their villas with drinks and are encouraged to make their favorite drinks for the group. It's a BYOB situation and we will drive you to a bottle shop upon arrival.
We have a 3 day loose schedule of beach activities, hikes, pool parties, and podcasts sprinkled throughout. Many of these activities will be broadcasted over our private Facebook group. You will all get laminated itineraries upon arrival.
About 25 talented people in the photo industry. Many of which you probably know or have heard of, met at one of our parties, or saw on the Interwebs. The people are listed below.
We will be doing a number of Podcasts while there, hopefully with you. We hope that you may join us in a Podcast to discuss yourself, your company, your brand, and how you do what you do. It should be fun.
Aaron Nace is the founder of Phlearn and one of the coolest people we've ever met. We once taught a class live on CreativeLIVE with Aaron and he made a custom star bedazzling brush and bedazzled a shot of Bud Light. It was one of the coolest things we've ever been a part of. We laughed so hard we cried.
Alastair is the European wing of Smugmug. Living up to his last name, Alastair is one of the most genuine people we've ever met and works for one of the coolest companies in our industry. He's also Scottish so everything he says sounds awesome, regardless.
Annalisa is a travel photographer and will be joining Ken Kaminsky in Puerto Rico. We met Annalisa in a German pub in Cologne and became friends over a cold tiny glass of Kölsch.
Chase works for Lensrentals.com and is the marketing wizard behind all of their awesomeness. Gary met Chase in Las Vegas and slept in his room at the Hooters hotel during NAB. It was magical.
Corey is a spoken word poetry & hip-hop artist based in St. Louis and one of Gary's all time favorite humans. He is also a former marine and will be in charge of music and making sure everyone gets up in time for morning activities. You may see him up at odd times roaming the island.
This man created his own unique style of natural light photography that the entire world is trying to copy. Who else can say that? He is an instructor at RGG EDU and can perfectly pair any sandwich with any bag of chips. Go ahead and test him.
This sexy SOB is one of the leading photographers in NYC and one helluva presenter. We met Erik in the Bahamas at the Fstoppers workshops and have stalked his speeches on numerous continents.
Frederick is the host of This Week In Photography and arguably one of the smoothest talkers in the industry. We look forward to meeting Frederick in person and creating some stories for podcasts to come.
Gary is responsible for this gross misuse of company funds and the co-founder of RGG EDU. Gary will be your main point of contact during your stay in Puerto Rico and will be in charge of your fun. If you need anything, just ask.
Arguably the sexiest Brit in all of Europe (sorry Alastair), Jake Hicks is a man of many talents. Jake recently launched a tutorial with RGG EDU on colored gel photography. The man climbs mountains n' shit.
Jose is the host of the podcast The Angry Millennial and Creative Aga;nst Depression. We recently met Jose in New York and broke bread over Shake Shack. The man has no off button, it's amazing.
Katie recently wed Aaron Nace of Phlearn and is a great human being. We've spent many nights with Katie and Aaron hanging out in Chicago and couldn't be happier to have her and Aaron coming down. We'd be honored if you two made a baby at this event.
Ken Kaminsky is one of the worlds best landscape photographers and tour leader around the world. The man knows his way around small corners of the world like he knows his way around a Fuji camera. If something sketchy goes down on this trip, follow Ken.
Kevin Kelly is a St. Louis based entrepreneur, artist, photographer, and avid event attendee. He basically knows everyone and has helped produce this trip. If you need anything during this trip, ask Kevin. He also has a badass product on the market called Snake Bit. Don't worry, you will get one.
Well Laurie has to put up with Rob Timko so that speaks volumes to her character. This will be their first vacation without Tiny Timko so we look forward to providing you with some much earned rest.
Mike's nickname is the godfather because he can do anything you ask of him. Mike was part of the founding RGG EDU crew and was the director and editor of a lot of our badass BTS videos. Mike runs a production company in Kentucky and also writes for blogs like Fstoppers. Mike will be shooting some BTS video during this trip so look your best when he's around.
Don't fuck around with Renee, she may roundhouse kick you in the back of the face. Arguably one of the coolest and most original people in the industry she has established herself as a tremendous photographer and teacher in the industry. Renee will be working with RGG EDU in 2017 on a series of badass videos.
Known in 4 continents as the Shakespeare of beer, Rob is the co-founder and instructor of RGG EDU. He had a few months of "what the fuck are we going to do in Puerto Rico" before he came around to the idea.
Oddly enough Rob Timko will be the only person on this trip with top secret security clearance. He is a man of many mysteries and has been responsible for many nights of great fun in Manhattan. We met Rob in the Bahamas over 3 years ago.
Sean started as a member of the RGG EDU community and has since gone on to perfect the art of duck lips in self portraits. Sean will be helping produce this trip with RGG EDU and will also be one of the drivers getting us from point A to B.
Sinh is the business development manager at RGG EDU. Pretty much everyone at every company knows Sinh. He's like the swiss army knife of photography industry contacts.
Tomas once called Gary from Brazil as asked to come move into the studio because he just quit his job. Without hesitation Gary said yes and a few weeks later a Brazilian moved into RGG EDU where he stayed for almost 8 months. It was awesome. Tomas has been on more productions than any other existing RGG EDU employee. He's a terrific photographer and terrible dancer.
